Cedar Ridge V is a dessert wine inspired by the Madeira wines of Portugal.
Its name is a reminder of its roots here at the winery and its connection to the land and climate. As with traditional Madeira wines of Portugal, each batch of Cedar Ridge V travels through a five-barrel Solera process for a minimum of five summers in the intense Iowa sun.
Solera is a process for aging wine by fractional blending in such a way that the finished product is a mixture of ages, with the average age gradually increasing as the process continues over many years. Our first batch has aged for more than seven years.
